Analivegam - Medicine for Snake Bite
So this is yet another tree with very high medicinal values –
Devil tree, or Analivegam, as we call it. Didn’t know why it is called
Devil Tree. This is actually my third post about a tree. The previous
ones were about Jack Tree and Ashoka Tree.
In Malayalam, ‘anali’ is the name of the venomous snake viper. The main use of this plant is in the treatment for venomous snake bites from
viper, cobra etc. Analivegam is not so common here. I think it is
rarely grown here. It also has various other uses, such as in curing skin diseases.
The tree we grow here was planted about 6 years ago. Still it is very small, only about 7 feet tall. We got the stem of this plant from a relative’s house at Chithirapuram, near Munnar in the high ranges of Kerala (Western Ghats). Until then, we didn’t know about such a tree. They told us about this and its uses. We brought it here and planted by stem cutting. It can also be grown from its seeds.
